Looks like Rand was taking cues from somewhere or vice-versa.

I swear, I don't know where Will finds these covers. He has pulled out some crazy beautiful work form eastern europe and japan etc.

I wonder what the process looked like back then: "Janek, we need a cover for a book—here is some scissors and color paper—do your magigik—we trust we will not have to come after your family".

The cover at the top of this post was designed by Slovak painter Nad'a Rappensbergerová (so a commenter informed me). This person is surely responsible for some of the cool bindings in parts 1 & 2 of my series. I'll investigate.
