Coupla fun things.
First off- thanks to The New Yorker for their kind mention of my very own Jacket Mechanical. You've added a veneer of respectability where none is deserved.
Secondly, a very nice, intrepid fellow named Jerry Parra is working his way through War & Peace, and documenting his progress online. Like a man obsessed, he is also taking snapshots of our P&V Knopf edition in situ...
(Boo! Digital edition!)
Thirdly, the AIGA judging has wrapped up, and permit me to mention two things:
A. That there are a full FIFTY books and FIFTY covers (because so many of you asked)
B. Sadly, (in an effort to unburden my conscience) that there was much incredible work that did NOT get in, due to a variety of factors which are too complicated to explain here, but suffice it to say I'm very sorry to those designers whose work deserved inclusion and did not receive it- chances are, it is not because of your piece's lack of merit, but rather, in many cases, the result of the vagaries of juries, and judging in general. I mention this because, as the only NY based judge, I will be fielding (and have already fielded) the majority of the "why wasn't my piece included" queries.
To the few, the sad, the shut-in, the far-flung book designers who missed last weeks AIGA BritishInvasionapalooza...
Boy oh boy. These "blokes," Jamie Keenan, and Jon Gray, sure can design.
And drink, apparently. It was something special.
